What personal data we collect and why we collect it

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Booking Forms

We request information from the user on our booking form. A user must provide contact information (such as name, email, and residence) and may also provide financial information (such as credit card number, expiration date). This information is used for billing purposes and to fill customer’s orders. If we have trouble processing an order, the information is used to contact the user.

We know customers are concerned about credit card security. We use one of the world’s largest funds transfer agencies – PayPal.  If you choose to use a PayPal account, your personal credit card information will not be given to us.  However, we will keep your PayPal account information so that we may bill you as necessary. If we obtain your personal financial information for some reason, we may retain it for up to 60 days after your stay in Brazil. After that time, the information will be deleted.

We store information that we collect from our booking processing forms in order to provide the best possible customer service. This information is also used to help us better understand the needs of our customers and is aggregated in a non-personally identifiable manner for marketing and product planning purposes. We do not share your personal information with anyone outside of our organizations.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Analytics

We employ various analytic software technologies that help us better manage content on our site by informing us what content is effective. None of this information is stored with users’ personally identifiable information.

Like most standard Web site servers, we use log files. This includes internet protocol (IP) addresses, browser type, internet service provider (ISP), referring/exit pages, platform type, date/time stamp, and number of clicks to analyze trends, administer the site, track user’s movement in the aggregate, and gather broad demographic information for aggregate use. IP addresses, etc. are not linked to personally identifiable information.

Referrals

If a user elects to use our referral service for informing a friend about our site, we ask them for the friend’s name and email address. Rio Holiday will automatically send the friend a one-time email inviting them to visit the site. Rio Holiday stores this information for the sole purpose of sending this one-time email and tracking the success of our referral program. The friend may contact Rio Holiday at privacy@RioHoliday.com to request the removal of this information from our database.

Additional information

Who we share your data with

If you communicate with us about a stay, including inquiring about availability, and you do not actually book a stay with us, your personal information is not shared with anyone. If you do book with us directly from the website or via one of our consolidator websites (such as AirBnB, HomeAway, Expedia, etc.), then your information may be shared with a third party payment processor. We use PayPal and may add other reputable and well known payment processors at a later date. In addition, your booking information is shared with our Brazilian partners and affiliates so that we can properly service you as guests.

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

How we protect your data

This Web site takes every precaution to protect our users’ information. When users submit sensitive information via the Web site, their information is protected both online and off-line.

When our booking form asks users to enter sensitive information (such as credit card number and/or social security number), that information is encrypted and is protected via SSL. We also do everything in our power to protect user-information off-line. All our users’ information, not just the sensitive information mentioned above, is restricted in our offices. Only employees who need the information to perform a specific job (for example, our billing clerk or a customer service representative) are granted access to personally identifiable information.

Industry regulatory disclosure requirements

When you check in to the Mirante de Guanabara, you will be asked to provide identification including your passport and residence. We retain this information according to Brazilian law, but we do not share it with other entities for any purpose.
